Reviving a Legacy IIS WebAccess Server
Recovered a business critical legacy IIS application, and its secure payment tokenizer connectivity, after an IIS 6.0 to 7.0 upgrade broke it. Restored end to end with minimal downtime.
NCC is a medical records management and bad debt collection organization handling sensitive patient records, payment processing, and collections. A business-critical system, the WebAccess server, ran a legacy IIS 6.0 environment hosting pvg.ncc.us and communicated with a separate payment tokenizer server, LAT-TOK. During an infrastructure upgrade from IIS 6.0 to IIS 7.0, the application and its services stopped working. SimpleLogix was engaged to recover it.
The Challenge
This was a legacy IIS application with specific dependencies, not a modern site that could be redeployed. The original IIS 6.0 configuration was disrupted by the move to IIS 7.0, pvg.ncc.us stopped working, legacy components and compatibility settings had to be identified and restored, and WebAccess had to talk to the LAT-TOK tokenizer again. Because the environment supported sensitive healthcare records and payment workflows, recovery had to be careful and downtime minimal.
Our Approach
We ran a detailed assessment of the WebAccess VM, the IIS configuration, and the application-to-tokenizer relationship. We validated pvg.ncc.us at the IIS, DNS, and network levels (bindings, host headers, ports, IP assignments). We corrected legacy IIS compatibility settings (classic application pool behavior, ISAPI, permissions), reviewed application pools and identity permissions, and verified DNS, connectivity, and port access between WebAccess and LAT-TOK. Finally we tested the full workflow end to end.
Solution Delivered
We restored the broken IIS configuration, rebuilt the required website settings, corrected the IIS 7.0 compatibility issues, reviewed application pools, bindings, permissions, and legacy dependencies, restored WebAccess to LAT-TOK tokenizer communication, validated DNS and network connectivity, and documented the recovery for future support and migration planning.
